Why water is the backbone

When we started thinking about this city, water kept coming back. Not as a risk you pump away, but as something you live with. Utrecht was the inspiration: canals with wharves, terraces on the water, a second layer of life below street level.
The idea grew into something bigger. Rain falls, is caught in canals and swales, used, treated, and that treatment feeds the plants in the nurseries. Water becomes one cycle tying drinking, cooling, food and identity together.
That is why water is not just a pretty feature of the city. It is the bloodstream.
